Attack of the Spider Beast

So the other day I'm meeting Tara for a ride at Fantasy. I got about 2.5 sec to get home, prepare my bike, and throw on my gear. My clothes are on the ground by the washer, clean by the way. I'm just too lazy to fold and put it up seeing as how I'm going to use it with in a couple days anyway. My bike inventory isn't built up yet to have a closet full of clothes and such to not have to do laundry every other day. Anywho...

So I live close by and I'm riding to the trail head. It takes about 20 min to get there. I meet up w/her, say hi, we're sharing our weekend ride stories when I start to feel a tickling between my toes. I try to ignore it still paying attention. It's probably just a hair caught in the sock or maybe a rock got sucked down in there. I feel it again. I move my toes a bit to hopefully move whatever to stop tickling me. Then suddenly it gets stronger and weirder...like, ok this is not just a little hair, something is moving. I interrupt her, frantically take off my shoe. I pull off my shoe then sock thinking I'm being paranoid and it's going to be something stupid like a piece of paper or toe jam. I see something black in between my toes and hit it down. Holy shit it IS a spider! Not a little one either but a good nickel-sized, thick, black, furry beast. GROSS! Like the tough mountain biker that I am, I go flailing around screaming like a 2 yr old hitting a note Mariah Carrey would be proud of.

Tara goes "What, what?!" And I point as it starts to creep back towards me obviously wanting revenge. She's says, "Holy crap that thing was in your sock this entire time you riding here?" I continue to do some unnecessary screaming and shivering, regain my composure and then we go ride.

As to how it didn't bite me as I was pedaling for 20 min, I'm not sure, but I do know that I will be checking my shoes and socks from here on out before putting them on. I think you should too. *SHIVERS*
